Na outra vez que eles vieram, eu ainda era pequeno, mas me lembro de que Roberto e Roberta brincavam muito comigo. Na verdade, mais Roberto. Talvez porque sejamos do mesmo sexo.
Depois, eles vieram no início de dezembro, nas férias, e nada melhor que cidade pequena com muito ar puro, galinhas ciscando no quintal, recebendo milho da criançada; cavalos arreados para o passeio pela cidade; mugido dos bois nas tardes silenciosas, quando muitos descansam na rede, após o farto almoço preparado no fogão a lenha, e, de sobremesa, café com rapadura e broa de fubá.
E, todo ano, a expectativa entre nósé grande:
“Quem será desta vez?”
“Tomara que seja eu. Vejam: já cresci o suficiente para me libertar desta roça…”
“Pois eu prefiro ficar por aqui. Sei lá como é a vida nesta tal de cidade grande… Aqui nasci, aqui pretendo morrer”
“Eu acho que deve ser muito interessante. Tanto, que os que já foram não voltaram para cá…”
E, assim, os interessados em partir para a cidade grande tentavam se aproximarda família durante os dez dias de estadia, mostrando que já tinham crescido o suficiente para ir embora.
As crianças, então, eram o nosso maior alvo. Afinal, quando se conquista o coração de uma delas, os pais não hesitam em lhe satisfazer o desejo. E quando eles chegaram e me viram, logo exclamaram: “nossa, como ele cresceu e está bonito!”.
Acabaram-se as férias, e eu fui o escolhido para a viagem dos meus sonhos: Rio de Janeiro! Cidade Maravilhosa!
Tudo bem que o apartamento fosse pequeno e o espaço que me deram não fosse lá essas coisas. O que eu lamentava mesmo foi não ter tido a chance de conhecer o Pão de Açúcar…
Aturar as reclamações de Hemengarda também não era fácil. Todo dia a empregada reclamava da minha presença:
“Ah, não, D. Aparecida! Até quando vou ter de aguentar essa bagunça?”
Ao que D. Aparecida a acalmava:
“Tenha paciência, Hemengarda. É só até o Natal. Faltam apenas três dias…”.
Confesso que, apesar das reclamações da empregada e de ainda eu não ter dado um giro pela cidade, e nem ter conhecido uma “perua” para me distrair, achei que passaria também o ano novo por aqui, pois sempre soube que a passagem de ano no Rio é maravilhosa. Muitos fogos, muita festa… Mas, fazer o quê, né? Já que eles estavam tão incomodados com a minha presença, por que me trouxeram? Na verdade, quem deveria perder a paciência era eu, afinal, saí de uma amplitude para cair numa ampulheta…
E depois, estou achando isso aqui muito sem graça. Não tem terra, não tem mato, não ouço o coaxar de sapos e, ao contrário do canto de passarinhos, sou despertado por sirenes, buzinas…
Acordei mais animado, já que hoje é véspera do Natal e, embora pareça que a minha estadia aqui vai terminar, quero aproveitar o máximo da festa. Vou comer tudo que tenho direito, pois não é todo dia que a mesa fica farta…
Tão cedo e já ouço o choro das crianças e uma súplica:
“Não, mãe, por favor, faz isso não!”
E o consolo da mãe:
“Fique calmo, meu bem. É assim mesmo. Você é pequeno ainda, mas, daqui a pouco, vai crescer e vai entender que é assim que funciona”.
Resolvo me aproximar para levar um pouco de conforto a eles.Eles correm e me abraçam como se estivessem buscando abrigo, fugindo da mãe…
E fico irado com D. Aparecida. Como pode ferir o coração de Roberto e Roberta, a ponto de eles a temerem e buscarem a minha proteção?
Acho que ela ficou enciumada, porque afastou os meninos de mim, dizendo que já estavam atrasados para as compras. Que eles fossem logo.
Eu sabia que o dia seria muito bom para mim: nunca recebi tanto abraço e beijo dessas crianças. No fundo, eu sentia o amor que eles me tinham. Senti-me tão orgulhoso que, juro, queria que os amigos estivessem aqui para me invejarem. Duvido que algum deles não gostaria de estar no meu lugar, rodeado de tanto amor, tanta atenção! Até a Hemengarda, hoje, acordou cantando e espalhando sorriso para tudo quando é canto. Então, eu fiquei pensando como o Natal muda as pessoas, né? Gente chata, emburrada, que vive reclamando, no Natal vira santo. Só falta a auréola na cabeça!
Hemengarda, sempre que cruzava comigo, passava a mão na minha cabeça e era um tal de “bilu-bilu…, glu-glu, glu…”, que até parece que virei bebê.
E, sei não, viu? Acho que hoje ela tá com a corda toda. Logo cedo, depois que a família saiu, ela ligou o rádio numa estação que tocava só música alegre, colocou um copinho que pensei ser água, ao lado da pia, começou a cantar, levar o copo à boca e dar para mim e para ela, para mim e para ela…
Confesso que, no primeiro gole, achei estranho e não apreciei muito não. Mas ela dividia com um salgadinho e fazia uma cara tão boa, ao mesmo tempo que gingava suas ancas numa alegria sem fim, que acabei caindo no embalo e, à medida que ela dançava para cá, eu dançava para lá…
E Hemengarda ria que ria… E dá mais um pouco para mim e para ela, para mim e para ela…
Mas agora está me batendo uma tonteira sem fim. Sinto que ando esbarrando nas quinas, meus pés estão perdendo o equilíbrio e só ouço o riso de Hemengarda cada vez mais alto, e insistindo para que eu a acompanhe no copinho:
“Larga de ser frouxo, sô! Bebe mais um pouquinho que hoje é dia de festa!”
E não sei se foi a sonolência, mas achei tudo muito alto: a música, o riso de Hemengarda…
……………..
Anoiteceu. Todos já estavam de banho tomado, roupas novas, e as luzes da árvore de Natal piscavam sem parar.
Os parentes foram chegando e se acomodando. Tios, tias, primos, avós…
D. Aparecida ligou o aparelho de som e a música envolvia o ambiente: “Hoje é Natal todos cantam contentes. Hoje é Natal todos ganham presentes. Hoje é Natal, Natal, Natal, a família está reunida… Finalmente, a hora da ceia…”
Faltava meia hora para as 24 horas. Os familiares assentados em volta da mesa e espalhados pela casa aguardavam o encontro dos ponteiros para brindar o Natal.
D. Aparecida entra na sala de jantar e deposita a última bandeja na mesa, quando, num átimo, Roberto, em lágrimas, se levanta, junta os braços sobre a bandeja, num derradeiro abraço, e berra:
“Ninguém põe a mão no meu peru!”
