O Menino Bartolomeu

O primeiro livro que li de Bartolomeu Campos de Queirós foi “Os Cinco Sentidos”, recomendado a um dos meus filhos pela escola. Um livro de apenas quinze páginas, mas de uma enorme densidade e pura poesia. Já na primeira frase, o impacto: “Por meio dos sentidos suspeitamos o mundo.”  Na última, a revelação: “Em cada sentido moram outros sentidos.”
Bartolomeu era assim: surpreendente dentro da sua síntese, dos seus silêncios…
            A primeira vez que vi pessoalmente o escritor Bartolomeu foi numa tarde do meio de semana na Lagoa do Nado na região da Pampulha, no início dos anos 2000. Ele fora convidado para dar uma palestra aos alunos de uma escola. Naquela tarde, desabou uma forte chuva e eu com dois filhos menores aguardávamos assentados nas cadeiras dispostas na sala, tendo a nossa frente o escritor Bartolomeu acompanhado do professor Hércules Toledo que, naquela época, escrevia sua tese de doutorado, baseada no livro “Indez” do Bartolomeu, e no livro “A Guerra dos Botões”, do francês Louis Pergaud, conforme fiquei sabendo naquele dia.
            Para a nossa surpresa, os alunos e a professora não apareceram e, de repente, percebi que teria a chance de conhecer e conversar com o escritor sem atrapalhar qualquer evento, uma vez que, confirmada a ausência da turma, ele se dispôs a conversar comigo e com o Hércules por algum tempo.
            Se eu achei um desrespeito a ausência da turma, Bartolomeu não compactuou comigo. Tratou de, imediatamente, demonstrar que compreendia a situação: “choveu muito e é perigoso deslocar tantos alunos para cá, com esse trânsito em Belo Horizonte…”, ao mesmo tempo em que, um pouco descontraído, concordou em ficar conversando com a gente.
            Apresentei-me a ele apenas como mãe de sete filhos, que é a minha maior e mais importante conquista, e como assaz leitora. Fiquei mais o ouvindo trocar ideias com o professor Hércules.
            Logo depois desse encontro, adquiri o livro Indez e solicitei ao Hércules que me informasse o dia da sua defesa, pois eu haveria de comparecer.
            Meses depois, fui à Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais assistir à defesa do Hércules e, naturalmente, eu já havia lido o Indez que muito me encantou. Chamou-me a atenção a escolha dos dois livros. O Indez do Bartolomeu, dedicado à Yeda Prates Bernis, é um livro sobre a infância de um menino do interior, ladeado por terra; esterco de curral; sinos da igreja que, com os seus badalos, anunciam casamentos, agonias e mortes; unguentos, cataplasmas; quitandas da mãe; indez: o ovo que se deixa no galinheiro para a galinha não deixar de botar; amigos de rua… Já o livro, A Guerra dos Botões relata a infância violenta das gangues de rua … Acredito que por isso a literatura do Bartolomeu tenha sido classificada como infantojuvenil, afinal, em nenhum de seus livros é encontrada a violência tão em voga na literatura moderna…
            Ledo engano. Bartolomeu deve ser lido por pessoas de 7 a 100 anos, tamanha é a identificação que temos com os seus escritos: “Por parte de pai”, “O olho de vidro do meu avô”, “Ler, escrever e fazer conta de cabeça” e tantos outros..
            Anos depois, estive na Faculdade de Educação da UFMG, nas duas vezes em que ele fora convidado para falar aos estudantes e professores de Pedagogia e da EJA (Educação de Jovens e Adultos). Ele sempre reafirmava a importância de uma mudança radical na educação, ilustrando que a criança, ainda pequena, ao começar a frequentar a escola, vai toda animada, de mochila (muitas vezes, pesada) nas costas e doida para adentrar na sala de aula. No horário da saída dos maiores, é aquela correria, pois esses veteranos estão doidos para deixar a escola. E então ele se perguntava: por que os pequenos, quando entram, estão tão encantados com a escola e, quando crescem, estão afoitos para deixar a escola? O que aconteceu neste espaço de tempo que os desencantou?
            No ano de 2011, Bartolomeu esteve no Museu Abílio Barreto, por ocasião do Beaga lê, patrocinado pela Fundação Municipal de Cultura. Era um debate entre ele e o linguista de Campinas-SP, Luiz Percival Leme Britto. Enquanto este discursava sobre os aspectos técnicos da biblioteca: espaço, acervo, quantidade de bibliotecas em bairros, Bartolomeu, pausadamente, falando baixo, pontuava que além do espaço e do acervo, era imprescindível “significar” a biblioteca como um lugar mágico, em que se encontra o prazer de ler, e não como lugar de castigo imposto ao aluno que, de alguma forma, está perturbando o professor em sala de aula, dando a ela a clara conotação de que ler é o castigo que se impõe a quem não quer prestar a atenção nas aulas, além de ser a biblioteca também depósito de livros didáticos e de acolhimento de professores que não estão na ativa por algum motivo.
            Vermelho Amargo é o último livro publicado de Bartolomeu Campos de Queirós, em 2011, e que a crítica considera como literatura adulta. De cunho autobiográfico como os seus livros, Bartolomeu dizia sempre: “eu escrevo sobre o que vivi. Não posso falar do que não vivi, embora toda memória seja inventada.”
            Coincidentemente, o último parágrafo refere-se a sua despedida:
            “Desconheço o depois de minha despedida. Não se caminha sobre a sombra ao entardecer. Ignoro se o remorso nos preservava em suas memórias ou se a paixão lhes presenteou com o esquecimento. A culpa é relativa ao tamanho da memória. Esquecer é desexistir, é não ter havido. Ao me interrogar se tomate ainda há, não me fecho em silêncio. Confirmo que minha primeira leitura se deu a partir de um recado rabiscado pela faca no ar cortando em fatias o vermelho.”
            Adélia Prado disse certa vez: “o que o coração guarda a memória não esquece”.
Bartolomeu Campos de Queirós é inesquecível. “Encantou-se” em 16/1/2012 e ficará para sempre em nossa memória!
